In the 16-nation euro region, prices fell 0.1% in June from last year, the first such drop on record. Prices have been flat or down in Finland, Portugal, France, Germany, Ireland, Spain and Switzerland, according to Moody's Economy.com.
In the U.S., the Consumer Price Index remained unchanged in July from June, but is down 2.1 percent from the same time last year, the steepest decline since January 1950, according to the U.S. Department of Labor .
