The Most Frequently Outsourced Services

A study conducted by Northeastern and Accenture indicates that the services most frequently outsourced to a 3PL are:

  • Direct transportation services (67%)
  • Customs brokerage (58%)
  • Freight payment services (54%)
  • Freight forwarding (46%)
  • Warehouse management (46%)
  • Shipment consolidation (42%)

Some other services that are most commonly outsourced are:

  • Travel services
  • Meeting planning
  • Janitorial services
  • Building maintenance (HVAC, plumbing, painting etc.)
  • PC Support (hardware, software)
  • Mailroom
  • Landscaping

All of the above are mature outsourcing categories.  If your company is internally managing these services it would certainly make sense to conduct an evaluation.
